The point-of-sale (POS) system is the heart of every retailer. It is the touchpoint for customers who increasingly expect faster and more engaging experiences. The FR80 Salmon combines all the features you need for manned or self-service checkouts with plug-and-play simplicity, boosting both transaction speed and customer engagement.
With its wide scanning window and exceptional motion tolerance for retail codes, combined with our superior megapixel scanning engine, the FR80 Salmon is ideal for grocery and food retail.
High Motion Tolerance
The FR80 Salmon can capture EAN codes moving at speeds of up to 3.5 meters per second. This is crucial for processing product baskets quickly and reducing checkout queues, especially for experienced users at fixed POS stations.
Wide Scanning Window
Its wide scanning window and small depth of field help capture barcodes even when products are large or held very close to the window. Another advantage for fast checkout is that less experienced users do not need to be precise when passing codes for a successful read.
Comfortable Experience
The FR80 Salmon’s short- and long-range illumination and anti-glare design are made for customer-facing applications such as self-service and POS scanning. This prevents eye discomfort caused by harsh lighting and reflections. Additionally, the FR80 Salmon performs well when scanning codes from phone screens.
Superior Scanning Performance
Equipped with Newland’s advanced megapixel technology, the FR80 Salmon excels at decoding poor-quality and damaged barcodes, as well as high-density 2D barcodes often found on alcohol, tobacco, and pharmaceutical products.
Duplicate Scan Prevention
The FR80 Salmon uses active sensors that distinguish between codes shown for scanning and those not intended for scanning. It recognizes the difference between an intentionally scanned code and one that remains in the scanning window beyond the typical decode timeout, helping to prevent accidental double scans of the same barcode.
Add More Scanners
The FR80 Salmon includes an RJ port designed to connect an additional scanner. This is especially useful for capturing barcodes on bulkier items that may not be easily scanned by fixed or conveyor POS systems or some self-service setups. Customer-facing POS systems can also benefit from a dedicated scanner for loyalty codes, e-coupons, or barcode payments.
Tone Adjustment
The FR80 Salmon offers users the ability to select tone volume and pitch via two user-accessible buttons. These buttons can be disabled as part of a custom configuration using the user manual or EasySet configuration software.
